Tea & Cake Planet

July 09, 2014

hello freckles tea and cake planet boiler shop bunting  The other weekend, I headed through Newcastle to the Tea and Cake Planet event held at Boiler Shop, where the Steamer event takes places every first weekend of the month. If you've wondered what a Hobbit cake would look like, or want to know some great North East cake/tea places, then you better listen up!

I'd never been to The Boiler Shop before, but it's a great space and a great location for the pop-up tea rooms and stalls which were part of the event. Only £3 in too and those who went on the Sunday definitely got value for money, as all the big cakes (like this Hobbit one and the Arc De Triomphe one) needed eating up!

The guys at Eat! Newcastle Gateshead put on a great festival and I really hope the success brings more events like this to the North East. Boasting some of the best names for tea and cake like Quilliam Bros (I visited recently and I massively recommend their Battenburg Tea, mmm) Tea Sutra which had some blossoming teas that I definitely need to check out soon, The *TeaShed, Fenwick, Ringtons and Brownie Bar (which has a stall in Eldon Square and you need to visit) there was so much on offer and really something for everyone.

Fenwick had a very fancy looking pop-up tea room, with traditional afternoon tea on offer plus a fizz option. It definitely looked busy all afternoon whilst I was there, The *TeaShed pop-up tea room seemed more family focused and there were lots of stuffed toys around for the younger ones.

I liked the idea behind the Alice In Wonderland inspired Mad Hendrick's Tea Party stall. Drinks were served in little hexagonal jars with a slice of lemon to compliment the Earl Grey Tonic.

The 'Moon Booth' was a quirky idea and a great twist on the traditional photobooth. It'd be great for a vintage and retro themed event and was really popular among the tea-lovers at Tea & Cake Planet.

I'll be keeping an eye out for another event like this and next time, if they're doing a similar cake map, I'll be there on the final day to help eat those remaining slices. Be rude not to, right?

    1. Everyone who went was welcome to help with making the cakes and adding to them, which I thought was a great idea. There was some free baking sessions on too, making scones and little cupcakes etc x

  7. I've heard some really good things about this event and I'm gutted I couldn't go. It looks like so much fun, but I've heard they do something at the Boiler Shop at the beginning of every month? x
